The global distribution and morphologic characteristics of fan-shaped sedimentary landforms on Mars

چکیده
Fan-shaped sedimentary landforms on Mars are important geomorphic markers of past water flow and characterizing the distribution morphology these features can yield insights into planet's climatic evolution. We present a new database 1501 martian fan-shaped that builds upon previous surveys uses Context Camera images. This comprehensive global survey includes both alluvial fans putative deltas, which we term scarp-fronted fan deposits (SFDs), across entire surface. classified each based their as fans, channelized SFDs, smooth terraced SFDs. Martian highly concentrated in high southern tropical latitudes while SFDs more common near equator. Both found at lower elevations than Late Noachian to Early Hesperian valley networks, suggesting change locations stable liquid water. Alluvial within impact craters preferentially located north, south, east facing slopes, location highest rim topographic relief; together observations support orographically-influenced precipitation snowmelt runoff source. For every collected morphologic data, compare with terrestrial fans. Relationships between catchment vary little surface, relatively similar processes. Although stratigraphic evidence deltaic deposition is lacking, previously conducted experiments along depositional basins generally formation. Crater counts indicate many Amazonian craters, indicating significant fluvial erosion occurred during Mars' recent history. • Most date Periods. Consistent implies formed under processes environmental conditions. The setting scarp fronted supports

Types of Martian Fan - Shaped Sedimentary Deposits
Introduction: Deltas, fans and channels on Mars clearly indicate surface water in the past. These landforms contain valuable information about the duration and magnitude of surface-water flow, with obvious implications for potential life on Mars. Martian fan-shaped deposits such as deltas and alluvial fans show architectural elements similar to those of terrestrial analogs, e.g. lobes, terraces...
متن کاملSedimentary silica on Mars
Terrestrial planetary surfaces, other than Earth, are overwhelmingly basaltic in character. Because of this, among the most intriguing and significant results from recent studies of Mars are the occurrences of high-silica rocks at the Pathfinder site and orbital thermal emission spectroscopy evidence for a global petrological dichotomy with andesites dominating the entire northern hemispheric p...
متن کاملAscraeus Mons, Mars: Characterisation and Interpretation of the Fan-shaped Deposit on Its Western Flank
Introduction: Ascraeus Mons is one of the three Tharsis Montes shield volcanoes that are aligned along a N40°E trend on the crest of the broad Tharsis Rise. Although largely constructed of volcanic deposits, each of the Tharsis Montes has a distinctive and unusual fan-shaped deposit extending approximately northwest on their western flanks. Three major facies have been identified within the fan...
متن کاملEvidence for persistent flow and aqueous sedimentation on early Mars.
Landforms representative of sedimentary processes and environments that occurred early in martian history have been recognized in Mars Global Surveyor Mars Orbiter Camera and Mars Odyssey Thermal Emission Imaging System images. Evidence of distributary, channelized flow (in particular, flow that lasted long enough to foster meandering) and the resulting deposition of a fan-shaped apron of debri...
متن کاملon translation of phatic communion and socio-cultural relationships between the characters of the novels
phatic communion is a cultural concept which differs across cultures. according to hofstede (2001), the u.s. tends to have individualistic culture; however, asian countries tend to have collectivistic cultures. these cultures view phatic communion differently. in individualistic cultures like u.s., phatic communion reflects speakers’ socio-cultural relationships in conversations. to see whether...
